Well after having my mishap this week of slicing off the tip of my ring finger on my left hand, I went to hospital and it is now all bandaged up and healing, I thought it would be interesting to have a look at the different wounds and how to heal them naturally.

When an internal or external break in body tissue occurs – we term it a
‘wound’. Open wounds (such as cuts from a knife) are breaks in the skin or mucous membranes. Open wounds are most commonly caused by accidents such as falls, mishandling of sharp objects, accidents with tools or machinery, and car accidents and are almost always accompanied by pain. A closed wound (a
contusion or internal bleeding) is a bruise that damages the underlying tissue
without breaking the skin (as in a black eye).

Some wounds may be accompanied by swelling and inflammation, and more
serious wounds that do not stop bleeding with applied pressure, may need
stitches or sutures. This holds the two edges of a wound together so that healing
can occur with a minimum of scarring. After an injury that causes a break in the
skin, infection is the greatest concern. Always seek medical advice if a fever
accompanies a healing wound, blood pressure drops or you experience rapid
heartbeat. As with any wound, it is important to have a physician inspect the
wound and help decide if sutures, antibiotics, tetanus therapy or other treatment
is necessary.

What Causes Wounds?
There are at least five different types of open wounds:
● Abrasions – a skin wound caused by rubbing or scraping the skin against a
hard, rough surface. Bleeding in this type of wound is usually limited, but it
is important that the skin be cleaned in order to guard against infection.
● Incisions – a cut caused by a knife, the rough edge of metal, broken glass, a
razor blade or some other sharp object. This type of wound generally bleeds
rapidly and heavily. If the cut is deep, muscles, tendons and nerves may be
damaged.
● Cuts/Lacerations – a jagged, irregular or blunt breaking or tearing of soft
tissues, often resulting from mishandling tools and machinery and other
accidents. Bleeding from a laceration may be rapid and extensive.
● Punctures – a piercing wound that causes a small hole in the tissues. Such
objects as nails, needles, ice picks and other pointed objects can produce
puncture wounds. Even if external bleeding is slight, there may be serious
internal bleeding resulting from internal damage to an organ (as in a gunshot wound). All puncture wounds require the attention of a health professional because of the danger of tetanus.
● Avulsions – An avulsion is a forcible tearing or partial tearing away of
tissues. It occurs in such accidents as gunshot wounds, explosions, animal
bites or other body-crushing injuries. Bleeding is heavy and rapid.

Natural Remedies

While natural medicines are often called ‘alternative’ or ‘complimentary’ medicines, they are, in fact, a unique and independent form of medicine in their own right, well able to treat a variety of conditions. Perhaps the term ‘holistic’ medicine is more apt, given the broad range of treatment options and approaches which are to be found within the practice of natural medicine, which encompasses many different disciplines, including herbalism, homeopathy, iridology, osteopathy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage techniques, aromatherapy, acupuncture and many, many more.

Many herbal and homeopathic remedies have been formulated with specific
ingredients to promote healing and support the body’s ability to resist
infection. Herbs such as Agrimonia eupatoria (a well-known astringent which
helps to tighten and constrict tissues) and Achillea millefolium (named after
Achilles, the Greek mythical figure, who used it to stop the bleeding wounds of his
soldiers) can help to heal wounds naturally. Calendula officianalis is an
effective first-aid solution for all minor burns and scalds, as well as any skin
abrasion or cuts. Calendula will also benefit the healing process by stimulating the
natural process of healthy skin and tissue regeneration.

One of my clients AB forwarded this on to me so thank you to her for this information.

On the Ellen show singer Sheryl Crow said that this is what caused her breast cancer.
It has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue.

Sheryl Crow’s oncologist told her that women should not drink bottled water which has been left in a car.
The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in
breast cancer tissue.
So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

Pass this on to all the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know that just might save us!
Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle instead of plastic!

PLEASE LET EVERYONE WHO HAS A WIFE, GIRLFRIEND AND/OR DAUGHTER KNOW

The Walter Reed Army Medical Centre is circulating the following information:
No plastic containers in microwaves.
No plastic water bottles in freezers.
No plastic wrap in microwaves.

Dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to cells in our bodies.
Don’t freeze plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently the Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating food in the microwave using plastic
containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin into the food.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same result, but without the
dioxin.
So, such things as TV dinners, instant soups etc., should be removed from their containers and heated in something else.

Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s safer to use tempered glass, such as Pyrex, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the styrene foam containers to paper. The dioxin
problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as cling film, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave.
As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

The UK’s largest business organisation calls for a Small Business Administration to fully represent the needs of small firms

A separate Government body with a seat in the Cabinet to defend the interests of small businesses should be created at the heart of Whitehall, says the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Many Government departments deal with small business policy, without one overall department that thinks small first. In its Budget submission to the Chancellor, the FSB is proposing that an agency modelled on the Small Business Administration (SBA) in the US is established to ensure that the voice of small enterprise isn’t lost among competing Government priorities.

The FSB argues that despite promises, successive UK Governments have failed to fully appreciate the needs of the country’s army of small businesses. Too often, the sector has seen temporary ‘eye-catching’ measures that have had no tangible effect on the ground, creating frustration among the small business community.

A UK Small Business Administration, backed by political will and built for the long term, would break that pattern and would help small firms to drive economic recovery in the UK.

The FSB believes that if modelled on its US counterpart, a UK Small Business Administration could facilitate small business finance, such as credit easing and finance to help export; improve procurement opportunities for small firms to meet the Government’s 25 per cent aspiration; and provide speedy disaster assistance for business hit by circumstances outside of their own control – such as last year’s widespread rioting.

Critically, the SBA would challenge other departments to rethink policies that could hurt small business interests as well as co-ordinate Government agency communication with small firms – a major weakness in current arrangements.

With many Government departments making small business policy, the FSB believes that there must be a new Cabinet rank minister to defend the interests of the UK’s 4.5 million small businesses. In America, its Small Business Administration has been helping small businesses since 1953 and has a seat in the Cabinet.

John Walker, National Chairman, Federation of Small Businesses, said:

“The Chancellor has made clear that there will be no big tax giveaways in this year’s Budget and that it is up to the private sector to drive economic recovery by creating jobs and growth. The FSB argues that in order to do that, the Government must think small first by giving the UK’s 4.5 million small businesses a more prominent seat within Government.

“Through implementing a Small Business Administration, it would allow the Government to quickly implement policies aimed at helping small businesses – such as credit easing – which firms have been waiting for since the Autumn Statement. It would give the Government a channel through which it can advertise procurement opportunities, give expert help and advice on exporting as well improve communications with small firms. All of this would in turn help to achieve growth.”

In its submission the FSB is also urging the Government to:

•	Select areas for intervention designed to make a lasting impact on small firms’ confidence: access to finance for small firms through non-bank routes, procurement, reforms to employment tribunals and introducing a true fuel duty stabiliser, rather than introduce a barrage of micro-measures and temporary schemes
•	Rework how the Government operates and purchases, regulates and composes long term policies
•	Look for bold measures to help small businesses in tax simplification, accepting the recommendations from the Office for Tax Simplification to consult on moving to a system of a turnover tax for the very smallest of firms and to reduce the administrative burden

FSB conference takes to the waters in Scarborough

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Annual Conference will see a cross-party line up of speakers and business owners when it hits Scarborough this March.

The FSB’s Annual Conference will host a conversation with the Business Secretary The Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP and Shadow Chancellor, The Rt Hon Ed Balls MP to discuss their plans to help grow small business and promote entrepreneurship across the country – especially as it falls only a few days after the Budget.

The largest small business conference in the UK, more than 600 delegates will also hear from motivational speakers Sahar Hashemi, the founder of Coffee Republic and Roger Black, Former Olympic Silver Medallist, all hosted by TV presenter and journalist, Selina Scott at the Scarborough Spa Complex beginning 23 March.

Delegates will also have the chance to raise their concerns with Small Business Minsiter, Mark Prisk MP and Shadow Small Business Minister, Toby Perkins MPin a surgery session. And small business owners will also have the chance to fire questions at the MPs in a Q&A session.

John Walker, National Chairman, Federation of Small Businesses, said:

“Business confidence has plummeted and employment intentions weakened as the economy has shown little or no growth over the past few months. So at the FSB conference, small businesses will be keen to hear exactly how they will be helped and how entrepreneurship will be promoted – especially days after the 2012 Budget. But it isn’t all doom and gloom, there will be businesses that have shown how to be resilient through tough times that will be able to motivate and inspire businesses to do what they do best – grow, innovate and employ.”
